Residential Lighting FAQs: What Houston Homeowners Need to Know

What types of lighting fixtures can you install?

We install all kinds of home lights. This includes can lights, chandeliers, hanging lights, ceiling fans, vanity lights, track lights, under-cabinet lights, outdoor security lights, and yard lights. We can install lights you’ve bought or suggest good options that fit your style and budget.

How much does it cost to install lighting fixtures in Houston?

Costs depend on the type of light and how hard it is to install. Replacing old lights costs about $150-$300 per light. New lights that need wiring cost $300-$600 each. Can lights cost $150-$200 each when we install several at once. Big chandeliers may cost $300-$800 to install, based on weight, height, and how complex it is. We’ll give you a clear price before we start.

How long does typical lighting installation take?

It varies by job. Replacing old lights takes 1-2 hours per light. Installing new can lights in a room takes about half a day for 4-6 lights. Big lighting jobs for large homes might take 1-2 days. We work fast but carefully and can often finish most home lighting jobs in one day.

Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel for new lighting?

Most lighting jobs don’t need panel upgrades since lights don’t use much power. But if you’re adding many new circuits or have an old, full panel, you might need an upgrade. For big lighting systems, especially outdoor ones, we’ll check your panel to make sure it can handle the extra load.

What's the difference between LED, fluorescent, and incandescent lighting?

LED lights use 75% less power than old bulbs and last 25 times longer. They make less heat and come in many light colors. Fluorescent lights use less power than old bulbs but have mercury and may flicker. Old-style bulbs are cheap to buy but use more power and burn out fast. We usually suggest LED lights because they save energy, last long, and look good.

Can you install smart lighting systems?

Yes, we install and set up smart lighting from brands like Lutron, Philips Hue, and systems that work with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Apple HomeKit. Smart lights let you control brightness, color, and timing from your phone or voice. We can install smart switches, smart bulbs, or whole smart lighting systems based on what you want.

What about outdoor lighting installation?

We install all types of outdoor lights, including security lights, yard lights, path lights, and fancy fixtures. Outdoor lights need special work for waterproofing, grounding, and sometimes digging for underground wires. We make sure all outdoor installs are sealed, grounded, and protected from weather with proper safety features as required by code.

Do you install ceiling fans with lights?

Yes, we’re good at installing ceiling fans with built-in lights. We make sure fans are mounted to ceiling beams or fan-rated boxes, balanced right, and wired for separate fan and light controls if you want. For high ceilings, we can add extension rods for proper height and air flow.

Kitchens need bright task lights like can lights or hanging lights over work areas. Living rooms work best with layers of light using can lights and lamps. Bathrooms need bright, even light around mirrors. Bedrooms usually need softer, dimmable lights. Dining areas need fixtures over tables.
